BLAINE BLACK
BLAINE BLACK was raised on the Central Coast of California. After graduating from high school, Blaine attained a position at a local foundry and quickly developed a keen interest in the process of bronze sculpting. He became particularly interested in the chemical patinations that are applied to bronze sculptures, giving them color. After experimenting with different chemicals and application techniques, he developed a large range of chemical patinations. Blaine has become well known for his exquisite patinas and talent in the delicate applications of patinations he has done for himself and for clients all over the world, earning him the title of master of patina.
Over the years, Blaine has refined and expanded his own sculptures, attempting to capture the essence or feeling of his subjects rather than duplicating detail. Blaine works on a variety of themes, including wildlife, family, music and the abstract.
Blaine creates most of his original work in wax and then uses the lost wax process to cast his pieces in bronze. In the foundry, he personally follows his pieces through each step of the process, doing much of the work himself.
He has received numerous awards in judged competitions and his sculptures are collected internationally.
