Color fusion: abstractions in glass
ARTIST STATEMENT
My glass paintings are intended to liberate rather than to constrain the imagination, so they do not represent specific images or concepts. They are seen as the observer wills.
In glass, form and color play with light. I began to explore the potential of glass by making stained glass windows. I then experimented with fusing glass because of the opportunities it offered to create depth within a design. I started with jewelry, but I found it too limiting because the small size of the pieces severely restricted the surface available for creating a design. Eventually, I began making bigger pieces instead. Fusing the bright and colorful glass in a larger format allows me to manipulate a wide range of colors and shapes more freely and spontaneously to create "abstract paintings" in glass.
