This new 11' x 12' x 8' aluminum Stabile, "Blue Rondo", is installed at a home in Pebble Beach, California.
Below are photos of the maquette I presented to my clients. They had asked me to think about an exterior piece a few years back and over that time I had put together many shapes in making a design for the Stabile. When they contacted me this year, I gathered the parts I had been working on and hot melted some cardboard trusses. Thinking back, I must say it required lots of vision on their part to see the potential of this design.

After that first presentation and before our final agreement, I presented a better maquette.

The first step was to create a 3D CAD rendition of the model. The work was done by Paul Rosewall at Rinaldi Tile and Marble in Watsonville. Paul did a fantastic job not only converting the different scans into usable files but also adding elements to the different cut parts so as to aid in the fabrication. The waterjet bed at Rinaldi's was too short for this project, so the cutting was done at Large's Metal Fabrication, also in Watsonville. The TIG welding was done by Fox Welding in Marina where Jon Fox and his team did an outstanding job. Below are a few shots of the whole process.

Painting was done by Jerry Graham in Monterey. With the computer rendering that I produced, I provided Jerry with colors swatches that he matched flawlessly. Jerry has extensive expertise in custom auto painting and he did a fantastic job painting Blue Rondo.
